Hi,
I have been having trouble with my truck and am hopping some one can help.
It has been cutting out on me intermitantly for some time now and a few times has quite altogether and will not crank over to try to restart. The crank relay on the passenger side is not getting a ground from the ecu, cir #97H. If I ground it with my test light it will crank the eng with the key but will not start. Continuity from the relay to the ecu is good. Any idea's or a link to wiring diagrams are welcome. Thanks, Ron.

Do you have a check engine light? No light = no ECM power (key on, engine off).

Look at the back of the key switch and see if the wires are burnt in the connector. They may have lost connection and you have no power going out. Also might explain your previous cutting on and off running issue. Hope it is something that simple. One of my other 4700's did the same thing.

Thanks for the replies. Ign switch was already suspected and replaced, but did not fix anything. I do not have the eng light coming on when cycling the key to the run. Anybody know where to find a wiring diag so i can fig out which wires need to be live ? Thanks again

The best thing I did was to go buy the eletrical diagrams book from the IH dealer for my truck. You can track down anything that way.

Replace the ECM relay in the fuse box with a known good one (regular Bosch type) and verify all the fuses are ok.

If all that checks out, remove the electrical connector pass-thru at the bulkhead and inspect for corroded wires, then check the ECM connections for same. There is also a B+ fused circuit on some units and the wire is not often run in the most secure manner - meaning it can rub and blow the fuse in the battery box.

The ECM is not getting power, either B+ or Ignition, not sure which and maybe neither :( , of course it could be an open ground circuit too, same symptoms.

Thanks for all your input. Turned out to be the b+ wire from the batt to the
ecu relay on the fire wall was not cunducting current. Over laid a new wire and a way we go! (till something else brakes!!!)
